The best months: March, April, October
April — the best single month
April hits a near-perfect equilibrium. Average highs reach 26 °C with lows around 18 °C — warm enough to sit in a riad courtyard at night, cool enough to walk the medina at midday without suffering. The Jardin Majorelle and the Menara gardens are in full bloom. The Atlas mountains still carry snow on the upper peaks, making day trips to Imlil and Ourika Valley particularly dramatic.
The one variable to check: Ramadan. In some years it falls in April (it shifts by roughly 11 days each year). If it does, local restaurants close during daylight hours and the pace of the medina changes significantly. This is not a reason to avoid April — but it is a reason to check before you book.
October — the best autumn month
October is what July pretends to be. The summer crowds have dissolved, accommodation is 20–30% cheaper than August, and the temperatures (20–28 °C by day, 14–16 °C at night) are ideal for both the medina and day trips. The Atlas gets its first snow cap of the season in late October, giving Imlil and the Ourika Valley a photographic quality that spring doesn't quite match.
If you are planning a longer Morocco trip that includes the Sahara, October is the best month for the southern circuit — Dades Gorge, Merzouga, and the desert camps are all comfortable at night without the cold of January.
March — the best spring month
March is the month the waterfalls are at their best. Winter rains have filled the rivers in the High Atlas and the Ouzoud falls are at their most powerful. Temperatures are climbing (14–24 °C) but the air still has a freshness to it that disappears by May. The medina is lively without being overwhelmed.
Like April, March carries a Ramadan risk in certain years. In 2025 Ramadan began in late February; in 2026 it starts in mid-February. Track the Islamic calendar if your trip falls in this period.

November — the best value month
November is consistently overlooked and consistently good. The summer heat is long gone, temperatures sit at 15–22 °C, and the medina is at its least crowded of any comfortable-weather month. Riad prices drop to their lowest since January. If value is your primary driver and you want genuinely pleasant weather, November is the answer.
February — best for a quiet, affordable trip
February is the month of the almond blossom in the High Atlas — the trees flower white and pink against the mountains, and the Ourika Valley and Imlil feel almost otherworldly on a clear day. Temperatures in the city (10–20 °C) are mild rather than warm, and accommodation rates are at their annual low. It rains occasionally. A good choice for photographers and anyone who prefers an empty medina.
May — good but warming
May is perfectly comfortable — average highs of 30 °C are warm but manageable. The gardens are still lush from spring rains and the city has not yet shifted into summer mode. The downside: it's the last affordable month before June price rises, and it can feel rushed if you're trying to beat the heat on day trips.
July and August: approach with caution
The summer months are not impossible — but they are genuinely hard. Temperatures in July and August average 35–40 °C and regularly peak at 42 °C. The narrow lanes of the medina trap heat. The Djemaa el-Fna square at 3pm becomes physically uncomfortable. Touring the souks becomes a survival exercise rather than a pleasure.
These are also the most expensive months — European school holidays push demand (and prices) to their annual peak. If you must visit in summer:
The Ramadan factor
Ramadan is the month-long Islamic fast — no eating, drinking, or smoking from sunrise to sunset. It shifts by roughly 11 days each year and can fall in any season. In Marrakech it changes the rhythm of the city profoundly.
- Accommodation prices drop 20–30%
- The medina is quieter during the day
- Iftar (sunset meal) is a spectacular cultural experience
- Night markets and street food after dark
- Most local restaurants close during daylight
- Service at some shops and attractions is slower
- Eating and drinking in public is considered disrespectful
- Alcohol is harder to find outside tourist riads
